Strelok the Professional by Ravenpuff Strelok the Professional by Ravenpuff
Commission work for ~Gvozdi with his oc Strelok, paid by ze *Lawlpool 'cuz she rocks like that. ~Gvozdi gave me a script for this comic and I have been working on this project the past weeks. Fun project with plenty of challenges and lessons to be learned.

Just a look into Strelok's average day and life, the life of the Repo-Man, the Empire's propaganda poster child.
I'm very proud of the panels with water effects like the shower and the rain. My first real attempts to draw such things digitally and I don't think they turned out half bad. True some parts were made copy-pasted with a few tweaks to save time, but still took me an awful lot of time to get it all done and to look right. But was a fun project.

I hope you all enjoy ^^

Yea, having fun with a project does help a lot. I can't draw, so I mostly just do writing stuff. Which I aint that great at, :P Good imagination though, if not abit on the random side.

Mmmm, I'm not good with detail so a lot of the creative process would be left to you. Other then general character design elements. Which the only unique character I have is Silver Ghost, the main bad guy. A grown up Silver Spoon, dressed in black, with a muzzle blade on her left flank held in black with a metallic strap. Her trade mark silver braid is the only part of her body showing though.

Just focus on enjoying the process and you'll improve where it counts

The price depends on how complex you want it to look

I don't think it would be fair of me to critique this, considering that I wrote this xD

I will start by saying the colour scheme you have chosen really brings you head first and entirely immersed into the universe that is the IZ world
I like to think, that the big bad loyalist, despite their nomadic nature, would have a somewhat permanent residence on Irk
At least, that is what I assumed this little plot would take place in
Surely, they love the atmosphere of the place
I like how you created the buildings in the panel
It feels fancy, but still very militant in its design somehow
A true emphasis on how Imperial architecture works
The sky traffic is also reasonably pulled off well - giving us the impression of a truly rich, detailed, living and breathing city that the comic takes place in

The lighting in the next panel is effective
Just as I imagined it, honestly
Simple, and casts a subtle shadow
To further tease people about Strelok's face as well
Not to mention, to give more possible hints about their origins due to the tattoos
Which I will say, I am glad that you remembered to put in xD
You followed the references accordingly and the result comes off pretty realistic against the texture of their skin
The cleansing gel effect also adds emphasis to the scenes as I predicted

I think it is strangely the least familiar we have ever seen Strelok is in the fourth panel
Unarmed, not even civilian, not even geared up yet
But placing on their hat
As I wanted, the panels play into an interesting series of transitions
Metaphorically at that
We see the architecture of an Irken city, mixed with beauty and certain kind of dullness too
We then see Strelok when they are most vulnerable, waking and bathing
Just to show that they are indeed, a person after all
But with them placing their hat on - while starring at the photo
Which I think you did good at with keeping subtle and still enthralling
It is like they are almost paying a tribute to their friends daily
A "This is for you" sort of deal, where once that hat comes on - they are a different person almost
Or perhaps they are the same person, with just a new face and a new identity that allows them to do actions without hesitation
Since this sort of confirms Strelok's gender for those who have not read my entry - we have a concrete example of their masculinity through the Tel'nik in the second panel
Which I hope people will translate as an iconic symbol of manliness, soldier-lyness and so on by assumption with Strelok - as it is in Russian culture

The parts with Vitas are very well done
The baby cactus is given its own character, with a character development even - directly tied with Strelok as a developing individual too
It is a stubborn thing, exposed to heat it flourishes, exposed to colds it refuses to die
Get to close, friendly or otherwise, and you may get knicked by one of its needles
Safe to say, that little cactus really represents Strelok as a whole
Day or night, fed or unfed, nourished or neglected - it lives
But almost seems to be stuck in a rut, refusing to grow to its true potential
And if Strelok truly loved it, they would plant it somewhere, give it a legacy and so on
But that is the thing - they are not ready just to let it go out in peace
They rather it died like them
Instead of a peaceful last minutes of existence, but to be cast away entirely in an instant - like a true soldier
It is better to die in flash, than to just fade away, after all

The nightclub turned out pretty good in the end
I know you had your doubts about it but you brought it to life and gave it attiude
The way you had the environment adopt Irken symbols and iconology, etc. really helps it stand out that this is indeed an Irken, possibly Imperial club
As for the rain effects, ever so well done
It is one of those immersive panels that brings the smell of a post-rain night to my senses
Such a nostalgic, peaceful sensation
You can just feel that environment piece dripping and soaking, you can feel the weight on their clothes
And the panel with the graffiti and all
It is a great complementing piece
The mayhem of death captured with the sporadic writings on the wall and the expression of shock on the dying face of the criminal, struck down without warning
You can almost see the glow fade from their eyes in it
At first glance, Strelok looks evil, malicious and intimidating until you look closer
There is almost a sympathetic glance behind the visor you can see
Not for those they killed, but perhaps they are wanting a moment to their self for once
Having spent the last few days cutting people down

The final panel is the most important
You really helped wrap this vision up for what I wanted it to be
I hope people appreciate the work as much as I do
And see the plot as you have, having given it such justice through patience and sure will to create an artistic piece overall

I wanted to try live up to the architecture and colour schemes we see in the show, where grey and purple tones seem to be dominant colour. The buildings were drawn in inspiration from other skyline pictures on dA. I tried to keep it simple yet still with enough details to give a look at the environment they all live in. Even Strelok himself would need a home base to return to.

The transaction was indeed interesting to work on. Such it is with showing morning routines that I consider a transformation into the person and image you show through the day. I just did my best to live up to the descriptions in your provided script, trying to make it all work in its illustrated stage.

I do like the element of Vitas da Cactus. A certainty in Strelok's life, something never changing that he reflects himself in. People might not feel so impressed by a baby cactus, but here we see clearly that it means something to him. He always returns to it from his missions.

The night club was indeed the biggest challenge for me but adding those neon decorations did help on it. I do like to make things look glowing and I got to experiment a little on making those lights get the full effect.
But the rain is definitely the parts I feel most proud of. Was a fun new challenge I do feel I succeeded at mastering. The effects of water running down Strelok's cape and hat and such was the biggest challenge, but I don't think any of the lines stick out as misplaced.
The graffiti was something that made me play around with brushes to get the right, painty effect. Sadly fist now I see my shading almost completely hides the message I wrote in Irken in the corner of the panel, but most of the words were hidden by things in the foreground or cut off by the panel anyway. Drawing death and gore ain't easy, but I think this turned out good enough.
Glad you can read that much into that panel. Really I just tried to keep a neutral, anonymous look to the Repo-man. Which allows people to read into him whatever they feel fitting. The cold, evil killer or the hitman with remorse, just doing his job?

I'm glad you are satisfied with the finished product :phew: Was an interesting project all together

It is simple but also distinct enough that shows it is indeed, an individual building that is bound to be unique from others
It fits pretty well with the IZ world overall

If you ask me, it is like we all put on a mask after the morning to go and live their day
Strelok is no different, it just so happens that their job is more interesting and eventful than our's

I hope people get the right impression
That is, Strelok is not entirely emotionless and is not a sociopath or even a psychopath
Just because someone is a zealot - it does not mean they are some dead emotionally
In fact, you can say that their Loyalist nature is out of a love for the Empire and what it stands for

I am glad that the commission came to you
As you are good at making Strelok in character in drawings - but still leaving the interpretation of their body language open to the reader

:glomp: It is a very nice piece
Thanks for all the time and detail you put into it

Good :phew:

That is the morning routine for ya. The things we do to prepare the image we show the world during the day. Strelok's just a bit more exciting as you say :giggle:

One of the reasons I like Strelok. He's not just a kill-joy character for the sake of having a killer character 'cuz murder is cool. You do your best to put reason behind it and shows he's just doing a job, not some badass avenge story or just to be cool and creepy. He's a businessman with a great loyalty to his business

Just did my best to try do him justice :phew: Although next time I might demand more than 21$ for something like this, it's an awful lot of work.

You are welcome :glomp: I'm glad you are happy with it

I think I make Strelok a believable person better than most people who make mercenary, hitman and so on
And while they can be vengeful at times, I like to portray revenge for what it really is - usually not changing anything and overall unfulfilling

Haha yes - perhaps you should
The effort in this is rather expensive

:D I am very happy with it

He's not on an overexposed revenge quest and he's not a psychopath enjoying to kill and murder. He's not a cold bastard. Just, a guy who's very good at what he does for the reasons of others.

Oh yes, took me almost two weeks to make :P But now I'll be better at demanding proper prices
